Application Information

Ready to apply? Use this checklist as your guide.

  1. Select your program of study. NOVA has many degrees and certificates that will prepare you for a promising career or transfer to a four-year institution. Some programs require additional steps for entry, so please review the program requirements carefully.

  2. Complete the online application via the link below.

  3. Complete the FAFSA for all relevant financial aid years.
    NOVA's code is 003727.

  4. Get evaluated for placement.
    We want to make sure that you are prepared for your coursework. You can demonstrate your readiness through the Virginia Placement Test, or submission of SAT, ACT, GED scores or your high school transcript. Contact the Student Services Center at any NOVA campus or visit Placement Tests.

  5. College Transcripts
    Submit your official college transcripts from all previous institutions to be evaluated for transfer credit. For more information and instructions, visit Transfer Credits.

  6. Contact an advisor.
    Planning and advising are critical to your success. After you complete the application, contact an advisor who will assist you with setting goals, academic planning and selecting courses. You can contact either the Student Services Center on your preferred campus or Virtual Advising.

Dual Enrollment

If you plan to begin taking NOVA classes before graduating from high school, please see Dual Enrollment.


Students who plan to transfer to Mason - get a head start with ADVANCE.

  • ADVANCE enables you to be identified as a Mason-track student while you are earning your degree from NOVA.
  • Transfer is seamless-upon graduation from NOVA, continue at Mason with no application process.
  • Defined curriculum pathways help ensure all credits transfer towards your selected degree program.
  • Success coaches at both schools will help you meet your milestones.
  • Program allows some co-enrollment for upper-division courses.
