Application Instructions

  1. Please fill out the online application as thoroughly as possible. When you are finished, click the "Submit Your Application" on any application screen. Print the application agreement statement that appears after you submit the application. There is no application fee.

  2. Apply for Financial Aid and SVCC Foundation Scholarships.

  3. Submit official transcripts if you are a high school/GED graduate. Also, submit official college transcripts to Admissions & Records for all college attended.

  4. Schedule and complete your Virginia Placement Test (VPT).

  5. After completing placement testing, schedule an appointment with Student Services to assist you with your first course selections. You will be assigned a faculty advisor to assist you with future registrations.

  6. Pay tuition and fees by the tuition due dates, either in person or online via MySVCC. You can also apply for our tuition payment plan.

Admission Requirements And Forms

Any person who has a high school diploma, its equivalent, or who is 18 years of age, and is able to benefit from a program at Southside Virginia Community College may be admitted to the college as a curricular student or non-curricular student when required items have been received by the Office of Admissions. The college reserves the right to evaluate special cases and to refuse admission to applicants if such refusal is considered to be in the best interest of the college.

Students who wish to enroll in an associate degree program should have a high school diploma or GED certificate. To enroll in a degree, diploma or certificate program, students should complete an application for admission and an application for Virginia in-state tuition rates. Students should also provide high school or GED and previous college transcripts, and complete SVCC placement testing.

Students who are not working toward a degree, diploma or certificate may enroll in courses after completing applications for admission and in-state tuition rates.

Students who take Advanced Placement tests may be eligible for credit. Please see our AP credit table for more details.
